Psalm
37:11
"But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight
themselves in the abundance of peace.
Meek: gentle, humble, saintly
Abundance: all, excellent, huge, plenty
Peace: welfare, health, prosperity, rest
When we think of meek, we often think timid, weak or
pushover. But meek is really a quiet strength. If
you know you are strong, you do not have to prove it. You are
humble because you know your strength comes from God. Even if
you do weight training to increase your strength and the size of your
muscles, you know that God is the one who gave you the muscles in the
first place. If your strength is intellectual, it
is still God who gave you your mind.
So being meek is realizing all you are is from God and as a result your
actions and attitudes reflect God.
As Christians, we are disciples or followers of Christ and we should be
doing the things and thinking the thoughts that Christ would.
One benefit of accepting Christ as Lord and Savior is also receiving
the Holy Spirit in our lives to teach us and empower us to live
'saintly' lives. The fruit of the Spirit includes meekness.
Last week our pastor talked about Jehovah Shalom, the LORD is
peace. Peace is a complete well-being, it includes a calmness
that we feel and also a total rest or relaxing on God.
Knowing that He, Jehovah Shalom has it all under control and will
provide ALL. We can have peace in our hearts and souls,
resting on God to provide every need whether physical, mental, or
spiritual.
Hebrews 3:20,21 says,"May the God of Peace...equip you with every good
thing for doing His will and may He work in us what is pleasing to
Him..."
